Ajax Amsterdam's Maarten Stekelenburg hasn’t been approached by any club: agent – Eredivisie news
Dutch International goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maarten-Stekelenburg-c22998, has been continuously linked with a move away from the Amsterdam Arena at the end of the season, but the Ajax Amsterdam shot-stopper’s agent has revealed that his client has not been approached by any
interested clubs.
Stekelenburg is a product of the Amsterdammers youth academy. The gloves-man started his professional career in 2001/02 season and has remained a part of the team ever since. The 28-year-old has represented De Joden in 186 matches and his performances this
season have attracted interest from a host of top European clubs with the likes of Arsenal FC, AC Milan, Juventus, and Manchester United all showing keen interest in his signature.
Rob Jansen, Stekelenburg’s agent, has mooted all the speculations linking the Amsterdammers’ gloves-man with a move away from his current club in the upcoming summer transfer market. Moreover, Jansen has also revealed that there is a possibility of his client
signs a contract extension with Ajax at the end of the season.
Jansen said, “There's nothing going on at the moment. There has not been any contact with Italian teams or with other foreign teams. With no team at all”
“Whether he prefers to move to a foreign league? I cannot confirm anything at the moment. There's still the possibility that he'll sign a contract extension with Ajax, too”, he concluded.
Stekelenburg injured his thumb in a training session some time back, which has sidelined him from the action for almost two months. After sustaining injury, the gloves-man revealed that he is considering a move away from his current club in the summer transfer
market as many clubs are looking to take his signature at the end of the season. However, the world-class goalkeeper is yet to be approached by any interested clubs.
Many expected De Joden shot-stopper to replace fellow Dutchman, Edwin Van der Sar, at Old Trafford. However, German media have claimed that Stekelenburg is unlikely to be the successor of the 40-year-old Van der Sar. The Red Devils have seemingly put their
sights on Rene Adler of Bundesliga outfit, Bayer Leverkusen. Adler’s contract with his current club runs out in the summer of 2012.
The Amsterdammers management would be looking to hold on to their prized asset by offering the 28-year-old a new contract at the end of the season. Stekelenburg’s current contract with the Amsterdammers runs until the summer of 2012. However, reports suggest
that the Amsterdammers could also cash-in on the highly rated goalkeeper should the right offer come in the upcoming summer transfer market.
