Ajax Amsterdam coach Frank de Boer believes Real Madrid are a great team – Dutch Eredivisie news
In the latest round of UEFA Champions League matches, Real Madrid and Ajax Amsterdam go head-to-head at Santiago Bernabeu tonight, September 27, 2011. Frank de Boer, De Joden head coach, believes that Real Madrid are a great team.
The Dutch mentor admits that his side will have to perform beyond their ability if they are to achieve a good result.
While many believe that the Dutch champions do not stand a chance against the Copa del Rey holders, the Dutch tactician has not given up hope and thinks that his side can beat the Madrid giants.
“Real Madrid are a great team and to win we will have to do things very well. I respect the class of Real Madrid. But that does not mean that we are going to change enormously. We must do what we do best”, De Boer was quoted as saying to the media.
Jose Mourinho, Los Blancos manager, will be on the bench as he serves out his touchline ban. The Portuguese trainer had made comments in the aftermath of his side’s semi-final defeat to Barcelona last season, something that didn’t go down too well with UEFA.
De Boer praised the Portuguese mentor and revealed that his touchline ban was justified.
“Mourinho is a great coach who made a mistake, he knows it and he will be in the stands because of it”, De Boer added.
The Dutch trainer then went on to reveal that he held good friendly ties with Mourinho when he was playing at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604.
“He was a good friend of mine when I was playing with Barcelona”, De Boer concluded.
Reports in Dutch media indicate that the Amsterdammers coach has taken advice from his former teammate Josep Guardiola, who is currently the man in charge of Barca.
Ajax commenced their champions League campaign with a goalless draw against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 at Amsterdam Arena. The Dutch Champions will be hoping that they manage to stage an impressive show in Madrid and secure a result in this difficult encounter.
