Ajax Amsterdam prepare to bid higher for AZ Alkmaar’s Kolbeinn Sigthorsson – Dutch Eredivisie news
Reports from Amsterdam Arena have confirmed that Ajax Amsterdam are preparing a higher bid for AZ Alkmaar’s prolific striker, Kolbeinn Sigthorsson. The Amsterdammers recently offered two million Euros for the Icelandic international but the bid was reportedly
rejected by AZ.
The 21-year-old prolific striker has been a part of the AZ Alkmaar setup since 2007/08 season. His superb performances in the 2009/10 season tempted AZ to promote the striker to the first team and Sigthorsson has grasped the opportunity with both hands,
becoming the top goal scorer of the season for his side with some stunning performances. He has scored 15 goals in 31 appearances, but it was his five-goal outing against VVV-Venlo this season that announced his arrival in the Dutch top flight.
The Icelandic International recently revealed his intentions to play at the Amsterdam Arena, despite interest from a host of top European clubs. The likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund are all eager to take his signature in
the upcoming transfer market.
However, it seems like that the outfit from Alkmaar want to hold on to their prized asset. Earnest Stewart, technical director of the club, said, “We have no intention of selling Kolbeinn. We just have to offer him a contract extension.”
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old’s brother and agent, Andri Sigthorsson, has also revealed that his client’s first preference is to stay with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571. However, he believes that his client would better fit at the Amsterdam Arena.
Andri said, “There are many rumours around Kolbeinn. That makes sense because he is doing very well right now. First, we need to consider AZ offer. If we fail to negotiate with AZ, then we can look elsewhere. Kolbeinn will not have too much trouble to adapt
in Amsterdam. He has mastered every style, but he fears not for a transition to greater competition.”
The Icelandic forward’s current contract with the current outfit runs until the summer of 2012. However, his performances and interest from a host of clubs have tempted AZ management to offer him a contract extension. However, should the Amsterdammers raise
their valuation of the player, AZ might be forced to let go of Sigthorsson.
