The 26-year-old goalkeeper has established himself well as the No. 1 at Amsterdam Arena after the departure of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 in the summer of 2011.
Reports from Amsterdam Arena confirm that Ajax Amsterdam are set to offer http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kenneth-Vermeer-c20618 an extension to his ongoing contract in the coming weeks. The 26-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of 2012/13 campaign.
The Dutch shot-stopper started his professional career at Amsterdam Arena in the 2005/06 campaign, coming from the Amsterdammers’ renowned youth academy, Jong Ajax.
However, he failed to establish himself as the first-choice goalkeeper in his early years and remained behind Maarten Stekelenburg.
However, since the departure of the Dutch International to AS Roma last summer, the 26-year-old has remained the No. 1 at Amsterdam Arena and managed to impress his coach, Frank de Boer.
De Boer has insisted that his side would like to carry on with the current goalkeeper. The Dutch trainer has revealed that the new deal would be for three years.
“We'd like to carry on with him. We are now gradually working to reward good players with more loyalty and I am very pleased with Kenneth”, De Boer was quoted as saying to De Telegraaf.
Vermeer has faced tough competition from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/NEC-c40018 Nijmegen.
De Boer insisted that Ajax have always kept two good goalkeepers.
“In the past it has often been show that Ajax needs two good goalies. And we have Jasper and Kenneth”, De Boer concluded.
The Amsterdam giants will reportedly offer Vermeer the new contract in the coming days that will keep him at Amsterdam Arena until the summer of 2016.
The 26-year-old was hit hard by critics earlier this year for sloppy performances. However, the Dutchman has replied with strong performances, giving match winning outings in his side’s last two encounters against Manchester United and SBV Excelsior respectively.
