Ajax Amsterdam vs. FC Twente Enschede: Key battles on the pitch – Dutch Eredivisie special
For the past couple of seasons, Ajax Amsterdam and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 Enschede have battled each other for silverware. In the 2009/10 season, Ajax giants won the KNVB beker Cup while the Tukkers managed to get their hands on their first ever Eredivisie title.
The following season, both sides went head-to-head, again, to battle for honours. FC Twente won the Dutch Cup while Ajax managed to lift their 30th Eredivisie title on the final day of the season.
The Amsterdammers will take on the Tukkers at Amsterdam Arena on Saturday, September 24.
Bettor.com takes a look at some key battles that will take place on the pitch.

Marc Janko has some good memories against the Amsterdam giants. He scored the winning goal in the Tukkers’ Dutch Cup triumph last season. The tall striker seems to be in exceptional form this season as he has scored seven goals in six appearances.
Although Jan Vertonghen is regarded as one of the best central defenders in Eredivisie, he will still have to be on the top of his game to restrict the 28-year-old from finding the back of the net in this encounter.

Christian Eriksen has emerged as one of the hottest young prospects in Europe following his impressive performances in the centre of the pitch under the leadership of Frank de Boer.
The Danish playmaker is in impressive form this season, scoring a lone goal while providing four assists. He would have to battle Wout Brama in the centre of the park for midfield domination.
The 25-year-old has been a part of the Tukkers for some time now and has provided solid performances in the midfield. The Dutch International will have to restrict Eriksen from creating opportunities from the centre.

It will be an interesting battle between Theo Janssen and Leroy Fer in the centre of the pitch. Frank de Boer – Ajax coach – has assigned a defensive role to Janssen, who played for Twente last season.
As the veteran midfielder would be occupying a defensive midfield position, he would have to deal with Fer, who plays in an advanced central midfield position. The 21-year-old has shown his abilities and could create big problems for Janssen.
Kolbeinn Sigthorsson vs. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Douglas-c11600
Since his arrival at De Grolsch Veste in the summer of 2007, Douglas has provided rock solid defence. The 23-year-old fought tough battles against Luis Suarez in Enschede last season, but failed to make an impact at Amsterdam Arena.
The Brazilian stopper now has a chance to avenge his side’s defeat at Amsterdam Arena by restricting Kolbeinn Sigthorsson from hitting the back of the net.
The Icelandic striker has settled in the Amsterdammers’ squad without much effort following his move from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar this summer. He has scored five goals in six appearances and has shown his attacking mentality.

Derk Boerrigter has been a revelation for Ajax this season. The 24-year-old has scored three goals while also providing an assist, in just six appearances.
The winger will take on the experienced Tim Cornelisse. The 33-year-old stopper has to prove a point to many a fan against Boerrigter, who has already shown his class on the left flank.
