The English Premier League side have finally agreed terms with the Eredivisie champions over the signing of the Belgian stopper, who will put pen to paper after clearing his medical.
Reports from Amsterdam Arena confirm that Tottenham Hotspur have successfully acquired the services of Jan Vertonghen from Ajax Amsterdam. The English Premier League side have reportedly paid in the region of 12 million Euros to the Amsterdam giants in order
to land the Belgian stopper’s signature.
A statement on the Spurs’ official website stated:
“We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Ajax for the transfer of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814, subject to a medical”.
The two clubs had long been busy in talks over the transfer of the highly-rated central defender to White Hart Lane, but both were failing to reach an agreement over the transfer fee.
However, the deal has now finally materialised with the Amsterdammers agreeing to let go of their prized asset, who had earlier confessed that he wants to join the Spurs before the 2012/13 season kicks-off.
Reports indicate that the 25-year-old will put pen to paper on a long-term deal at White Hart Lane after passing his medical.
Vertonghen, who had been plying his trade at Amsterdam Arena since the summer of 2006, was extremely delighted after the transfer saga finally concluded.
“I'm very happy that the saga's finally over. I don't have to worry about anything anymore, and can focus on other things again”, the Belgian international was quoted as saying to the media.
The central defender, who donned the jersey of the Amsterdam giants in 155 Eredivisie games and netted 23 goals along the way, went on to confess that he cannot wait to represent Lilywhites.
“It's great that I can start at Spurs during pre-season. That was very important for me. I'm looking forward to a great time. I've heard a lot of beautiful stories about Tottenham”, Vertonghen concluded.
The Belgian international is the English Premier League side’s second signing since Andre Villas-Boas took over the managerial hot seat at White Hart Lane after the arrival of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Hoffenheim earlier last week.
