Ajax Amsterdam head coach, Frank de Boer, has confirmed that Jan Vertonghen’s impending summer move to join Tottenham Hotspur will be materialised in the coming days.
The 25-year-old, who came through the ranks of the Amsterdammers’ fabled youth academy, started his professional career at Amsterdam Arena in the 2006/07 season.
The Belgian stopper has thus far played 155 Eredivisie games for the Amsterdam giants, providing rock solid defence while netting 23 goals along the way.
His impressive performances at the heart of De Joden’s defence for the past couple of seasons have garnered him interest from several top flight clubs including the likes of AC Milan, Barcelona, Manchester United and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429.
However, the highly-rated centre-back, whose contract at Amsterdam Arena is due to expire in the summer of 2013, has made it clear that he only wants to move to White Hart Lane before the 2012/13 campaign kicks-off.
Although, he has been linked with the Spurs for quite some time now, it seems that the deal is now on the brink of completion with the only complication left is the Belgian international’s dispute with his club over receiving a small percentage of the transfer
fee.
Vertonghen’s agent, Mustapha Nakhli, recently revealed that he would be holding talks with the Ajax management to end the dispute, and it seems that he has resolved the situation, as De Boer omitted the central defender from his side’s pre-season game against
FC Emmen.
“Jan has his head in London, so we sent him home. He is only waiting on a few minor details before he gets the green light”, De Boer was quoted as saying to Telesport.
Reports indicate that Tottenham will pay in the region of 12 million Euros to lure the talented centre-back to White Hart Lane.
The Belgian stopper will become the second signing of Andre Villas-Boas, who was recently appointed as the Spurs new manager.
The Portuguese mentor earlier acquired the services of Gylfi Sigdursson from Hoffenheim.
