Ajax Amsterdam head coach, Frank de Boer, has expressed confidence ahead of his side’s UEFA Champions League clash against Manchester City. The two sides will meet at Amsterdam Arena on Wednesday, October 24.
The Amsterdammers have yet to register a point, losing both of their opening games against Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, 1-0 and 1-4 respectively.
However, the Dutch trainer is confident that his side can bag all three points in their upcoming encounter at home should they play their own game.
“Can we beat City? Of course. But we have to stick to our philosophy, and play our own game. We are convinced that if we do that and everybody is in good form then, with the talented players we have, we can make it difficult for any club”, De Boer was quoted
as saying to BBC.
De Joden played brilliantly against the Bundesliga outfit in their opening match, but failed to bag even a single point at the end.
However, the Amsterdam giants staged a far from pleasing show in their second Group D game against La Liga champions, and De Boer admitted that his troops performed poorly against the Madrid giants.
“Against Madrid we did not play well, which is why we lost”, the former Barcelona player added.
Nonetheless, the Dutch mentor is confident that his side will try their utmost to emerge victorious in their upcoming game against the English Premier League title holders.
“City's experience could be decisive but, if they have a bad day, we can win”, De Boer concluded.
Manchester City are also experiencing difficulties in the Europe’s most prestigious club competition. They suffered a hard fought 3-2 defeat at the hands of Los Blancos at Santiago Bernabeu, before securing another tough 1-1 stalemate in front of their home
crowd against the German champions.
However, the Citizens would be gunning to register their first win of the 2012/13 Champions League campaign, when they meet Ajax at Amsterdam Arena on Wednesday.
