Ajax confirm Roma still interested in signing goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg: Serie A news

Along with Stekelenburg, Roma have also been linked with Espanyol shot-stopper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-Kameni-c8464 too. The Cameroonian was believed to be on the verge of signing for the Italian outfit but negotiations have broken down.
Roma are definitely in the market for a new goalkeeper to replace Alexander http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. Stekelenburg, who is in the last year of his contract with the Dutch outfit, is now favourites
to sign for the Giallorossi.
Reports in the media suggested that Ajax have offered the Dutch international a new contract but he has declined it and wants to move to a bigger club.
Blind revealed that the player’s agent has told him that Roma is still interested in signing his client. However, the sporting chief insisted that he has not received any concrete offer from the Italian side.
Talking to the reporters Blind said: “We know, through the player’s agent, that Roma’s interest in Stekelenburg is still alive. At the moment though we have not received a concrete offer. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens
in the next few days.”
“We haven’t offered Maarten an extension. He’s an exemplary professional and an excellent goalkeeper. He’ll remain our captain. He still has a year on his contract with us and we know that there is interest. Now we’ll see how the situation evolves.”
Ajax have valued their star player at €10m and Roma are preparing to play waiting game to force them to lower the valuation. On the other hand, they are believed to be more interested in sealing a deal for Kameni and reports even
suggest that the Italians want both of them.
Stekelenburg has attracted interest from host of other European clubs too and has previously been linked with a move to English sides, Manchester United and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429. The 28-year-old emerged from Ajax’s youth setup and has made
more than 200 appearances thus far.
