The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 midfielder left Ligue 1 outfit Evian Thonon Gaillard earlier this summer, and is now looking to join the Eredivisie champions in the coming days.
Reports from Amsterdam Arena confirm that Ajax Amsterdam are on the verge of signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Poulsen-c9114 on a free transfer. The 32-year-old’s contract at the Ligue 1 side, Evian Thonon Gaillard FC, expired earlier this summer, and
the veteran midfielder opted not to prolong his stay in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899.
The Danish midfielder, who started his professional career at Holbaek in the summer of 1997, arrived at Parc des Sports on a season-long deal at the start of the 2011/12 campaign, following an underwhelming 2010/11 season at Liverpool.
However, the former Juventus player failed to make an impact with the French top tier side, and opted to leave the Evian.
Ajax have been in the market to sign a perfect replacement for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vurnon-Anita-c36486, who left the Amsterdam giants to join Newcastle United earlier this month. And Frank de Boer, the Amsterdammers head coach, sees the veteran midfielder
as a perfect addition to his squad.
Poulsen, who has thus far played over 250 matches while representing professional football clubs since making his debut in 1997, was all praise for the 31-time Dutch champions.
However, he admitted that the reigning Eredivisie champions are missing experience in their squad following the departures of key players in the ongoing summer transfer window.
“Ajax are renowned for always having a very young team, but now something is missing in the squad because the most experienced players left”, Poulsen was quoted as saying to Ekstra Bladet.
The Danish midfielder, who represented his national football team in 92 matches before hanging up his boots at the end of Euro 2012, was extremely delighted by joining De Joden.
“I am really pleased with this transfer, but it is not completely done”, Poulsen added.
The talented midfielder, who won several pieces of silverware while representing Schalke and Sevilla, went on to reveal that he will sign a contract at Amsterdam Arena that will run until the summer of 2014.
“It is at least a two-year contract”, Poulsen concluded.
