The Belgian stopper has performed consistently at the back for the past couple of seasons and the club management is looking to reward him with a new contract.
Reports from Amsterdam Arena confirm that Ajax Amsterdam are keen to prolong Toby Alderweireld’s stay by offering him a extension to his ongoing contract. Reports indicate that the new contract will keep the Belgian International at Amsterdam Arena until
the summer of 2015.
The 23-year-old, who started his professional career at Amsterdam Arena in the 2008/09 season, has been continually linked with a move abroad with Newcastle United and Manchester United thought to be his keen admirers.
The central defender has an ongoing contract with the Amsterdam giants that is due to expire in the summer of 2014. Frank de Boer, De Joden head coach, has expressed his desire to tie the Belgian stopper down on a long-term basis.
“Toby is an important player for us and he is developing well. Hence we wish to keep him at the club for longer. He has developed into a consistent performer, and can only better his skills further in the seasons to come. I am very pleased with him”, De
Boer was quoted as saying to De Telegraaf.
Alderweireld has also insisted that he is in no mood to rush a deal and expressed his desire to continue plying his trade at Amsterdam Arena.
“I have plenty to learn. It would be foolish to leave now. You need to be at the right age, and I am only 23”, the central defender was quoted as saying to Voetbal International.

“The route taken by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thomas-Vermaelen-c35002 was a good one. Thomas played six seasons at Ajax and didn't go to Arsenal until 2009”, Alderweireld concluded.
The 23-year-old centre-back has thus far played 79 matches for the Amsterdammers.
