The former Sevilla midfielder believes that the Eredivisie champions can achieve a good result in their upcoming UEFA Champions League encounter.
Ajax Amsterdam midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Poulsen-c9114, has expressed confidence ahead of his side’s upcoming UEFA Champions League clash against Manchester City at Amsterdam Arena on Wednesday, October 24.
The veteran Danish midfielder has admitted that the English champions have plenty of class in their squad just like other teams in their group, which includes Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund as well.
However, the 32-year-old has still expressed optimism, while insisting that his side can achieve a good result in front of their home crowd on Wednesday.
“I do know that City’s current team is world class, just like the other teams in our group. I hope we can do better against City then we did against the other teams, because we really need three points”, Poulsen was quoted as saying to Goal.com.
De Joden have yet to bag even a single point in their Europe’s primary club competition. They suffered a hard fought 1-0 defeat at the hands of Dortmund in their opening Group D game, before the Madrid giants handed them a demoralising 1-4 defeat at Amsterdam
Arena.
The four-time European champions had a better evening against the Bundesliga outfit, but their showings against Los Blancos were far from pleasing.
And the former Juventus midfielder has admitted that his side staged a far from pleasing show against Los Blancos. However, the Dane has insisted that De Joden will manage to secure a good result if they perform better than they did against Die Borussen.
“Against Real Madrid we didn't play well. We had a lot of problems with the amount of pressure they put on our defence so we couldn't play our own game. Against Borussia Dortmund it was a lot better so we have to focus on that”, Poulsen concluded.
City have been performing brilliantly in the English top flight this season, but their performances in the Europe’s most prestigious club competition have remained below par.
And the Danish midfielder, who arrived at Amsterdam Arena earlier this summer, would be hoping that the Citizens’ poor form in Champions League remains intact on Wednesday.
