Ajax Amsterdam head coach, Frank de Boer, has admitted that his side played poorly in front of their home crowd and suffered their first home defeat of the Eredivisie season.
The Amsterdammers were on the receiving end of a surprising 2-0 defeat against FC Utrecht on Sunday, February 5.
The Utreg started the match brightly and looked the better of the two sides on the pitch throughout the 90 minutes. Edouard Duplan scored late in the opening half to give the visitors a deserving lead, and his second of the evening twelve minutes before
the full time whistle sealed the game in his side’s favour.
De Boer expressed disappointment after his side failed to assert authority on the field, while also admitting that the visitors remained the better side.
“I am disappointed. We created too little chances. We wanted to score a goal or two in the opening half, but we never managed to create anything”, De Boer was quoted as saying to NOS.nl.
The Amsterdammers boss is currently facing a selection dilemma. With Kolbeinn Sigthorsson, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toby-Alderweireld-c35183 and Gregory van der Wiel all sidelined due to various injuries, the Dutch mentor had to be content with a make-shift
line-up for the match.
“We played with an entirely re-arranged team, which could be a cause of our performance. At this moment, many of our first-team players are out of action”, De Boer added.
The Dutch trainer then went on to insist that his side must overcome this difficult period by achieving consistent results if they are to keep their Eredivisie hopes alive.
“We have to work hard, and achieve goods results consistently. We have to ensure that everybody in the team perform to his potential. This loss is certainly a wise lesson for all the youngsters”, De Boer concluded.
