The Dutch International has remained on the sidelines since December 2011, but seems to have recovered from his injury and would be joining the squad’s practice on coming Monday.
Ajax Amsterdam head coach, Frank de Boer, has received some morale boosting news from the medical staff, as Gregory van der Wiel is edging closer to a return after a three-month lay-off due to a groin injury.
The Dutch International has been out of action since December 2011, and played his last official match for the Eredivisie giants in the 4-0 win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/ADO-Den-Haag-c38221 at home on December 18.
However, the highly-rated right-back has seemingly recovered from his injury and is expected to take part in his side’s training session on Monday, March 19.
Although the Dutch stopper is looking to return to training grounds, he is not expected to take part in his side’s upcoming Eredivisie encounters against ADO Den Haag and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Heracles-Almelo-c39520 on April 1 can be
stated as a realistic date of his comeback.
The 24-year-old is a product of the Amsterdammers youth academy, Jong Ajax, and started his professional career in the 2007/08 season. The Dutch stopper has thus far made 121 appearances for the Amsterdam giants and scored 10 goals along the way.
His impressive performances at the back garnered him interest from several top European clubs in the summer transfer window. However, the Amsterdammers managed to hold on to his services.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 came close to luring the Dutch International away from Amsterdam Arena in the winter transfer market. Los Che managed to agree om personal terms with the stopper, but the two clubs failed to reach an agreement on the transfer fee and the alleged
move collapsed.
The reigning Eredivisie champions were seemingly pleased to hold on to their prized asset this season. However, the club management would be looking to cash in on Van der Wiel, who has an ongoing contract that runs until the end of the 2012/13 campaign,
in the upcoming summer transfer market rather than letting him go on a free transfer.
