Despite expressing Tottenham Hotspur as his favourites, the Belgian stopper has insisted that he can very well join Arsene Wenger’s side this summer as well.
After naming Tottenham Hotspur as his preferred destination, Ajax Amsterdam central defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814, has insisted that a summer move to Arsenal still remains an option for him.
Lilywhites chairman, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy, visited Amsterdam Arena earlier this week to agree terms over the transfer of the Belgian International that fuelled speculations regarding the centre-back’s move.
However, it seems likely that Vertonghen’s expected move to White Hart Lane will fail to materialise. De Joden management is reportedly demanding 15 million Euros for the 25-year-old while the Spurs are reluctant not to go beyond
11 million Euros.
In addition, after missing out on UEFA Champions League berth, it seems unlikely that the North London club would be able to come up with an improved bid.
The Belgian International, who was earlier insisting the Amsterdammers to complete his transfer to Lilywhites at the earliest, has now revealed that Arsenal still remain a possibility if his move to the Spurs falls apart.
“I've said repeatedly that Tottenham are my first choice, but the talks haven't progressed. They have shown me around, I have met all their key people and their chairman came to meet me on Monday. But http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 want me too. They
remain a possibility if my Spurs move falls through”, Vertonghen was quoted as saying to the media.
The technically gifted defender went on to admit that the North Londoners would not be able to meet the Eredivisie champions’ asking price.
“I'm sure Spurs won't be able to pay that much after they missed out on the Champions League. Ajax wants to get as much as they can for me, while Spurs want to pay as little as possible. I hope a deal can be done. But I won't fight
with Ajax, that is the last thing I'd want after so many good years with them”, Vertonghen concluded.
The Belgian International, who has been representing Ajax since making his debut at Amsterdam Arena in the 2006/07 season, has thus far played 155 Eredivisie matches for De Joden and has netted 23 goals.
