The Belgian stopper has been linked with a host of European giants including Arsenal, Newcastle, AC
Milan and Tottenham, but insists he is currently only focusing on winning the Eredivisie title.
Ajax Amsterdam centre-back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814, has insisted that everybody knows that he is open to a move away from Amsterdam Arena this summer. However, the Belgian International has asserted that his entire focus is currently on winning the Eredivisie title.
The Belgian stopper is a product of De Joden’s fabled youth academy and started his professional career at Amsterdam Arena in the 2006/07 season.
Despite encountering difficulties early in his career, the 24-year-old made rapid developments and become an integral part of the Amsterdammers squad.
His impressive performances at the back in the past couple of seasons garnered him interest from a host of elite European clubs. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and AC Milan are said to be his key admirers, who have expressed interest in luring
the central defender away from Amsterdam.
Vertonghen, however, has insisted that he will make a decision regarding his future at the end of the ongoing campaign.
“Everybody knows that I'm open to a transfer, but you shouldn't want to leave at all costs. I have a few things lined up at the moment, but it's difficult to say anything about that at the moment. I'll see what happens, if something becomes concrete”, Vertonghen
was quoted as saying to the media.
The highly-rated centre-back went on to assert that he wants to put in consistent performances in the remaining weeks of the 2011/12 season and help his side in retaining the title.
“I'm focusing on putting in good performances and winning the league title for now”, Vertonghen concluded.
The Belgian International has thus far represented De Joden in well over 100 matches and has managed to find the back of the net on 21 occasions. He has an ongoing contract at Amsterdam Arena that is due to expire in the summer of 2013.
Reports indicate that the Ajax management will not let go of their prized asset for anything less than 12 million Euros in the upcoming summer transfer market.
