The Belgian international is eager to join the English Premier League outfit at the earliest, but insists that he will remain focused at the Eredivisie champions until a deal is materialised.
Ajax Amsterdam central defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814, has revealed that there is still no clarity about his move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, as both sides are yet to reach an agreement over the transfer fee.
The highly-rated centre-back has long been linked with a summer switch to join the Spurs. However, the potential deal has hit a snag over the transfer fee.
The Amsterdam giants are demanding 15 million Euros for their prized asset. However, the English Premier League outfit are unwilling to pay anything over 12 million Euros, and the 25-year-old has confessed that he cannot stop thinking
about his impending move to Lilywhites.
“Of course I'm thinking about that as there's still no clarity. We're talking about my future here. I can't say that I'm not thinking about it, and it obviously worries me. However, the fact is that there's no agreement yet, so
I'll have to accept that. The most important thing for me right now is regaining match fitness”, Vertonghen was quoted as saying to the Ajax’s official website.
The Belgian international has thus far represented the Amsterdammers in well over 100 Eredivisie games while netting 23 goals along the way. His consistent and rock solid showings at the back have garnered him interest from several
top European clubs including the likes of AC Milan, Manchester United, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Bayern Munich.
The central defender, however, has made it clear that he will always give his hundred percent while donning the jersey of the Amsterdammers.
“I'm still an Ajax player for now and will always give 100 per cent for the club. It's the start of a new season, and I'll start it at Ajax. It's impossible to say when this will become clearer, but it has to be well before August
31. I'm focusing on Ajax for now, though”, Vertonghen concluded.
The Belgian international has an ongoing contract at Amsterdam that runs until the 2012/13 season concludes.
