Ajax Amsterdam central defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814, has described Tottenham Hotspur as an amazing club and has expressed his desire to play in the English Premier League.
The highly-rated centre-back has been linked with a move away from Amsterdam Arena for the past couple of seasons. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, AC Milan and the Spurs have all remained keen admirers of the Belgian International.
Vertonghen put in a brilliant performance in his side’s 2-1 win over the Red Devils at Old Trafford in the return leg of Europa League last-32 tie on February 23. The Lilywhites head coach, Harry Redknapp, was reportedly present in the stands, watching the
24-year-old perform.
The central defender has now clearly expressed his ambition of playing in the English Premier League.
“I think Tottenham are an amazing club and you see how well they are doing this season. They are in the top three in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 and that’s where I want to play. I can’t say anything about whether there has been contact about a transfer but I think my game can
be suited to English football”, Vertonghen was quoted as saying to goal.com.
The 24-yeear-old then went on to assert that playing in the English top light has always been his dream.
“I love the atmosphere and it has the best players in the world, it breathes football. It’s one of my goals to play in the best leagues and against the best players. It’s the only competition I watch apart from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604. I hope one day I can play in the
Premier League with this atmosphere”, Vertonghen concluded.
The central defender, who is a product of the Amsterdammers’ fabled youth academy, started his professional career at Amsterdam Arena in the 2006/07 season. He has represented Ajax in 139 matches so far and has managed to score 18 goals.
Reports indicate that Ajax will not let go of the Belgian International, who has an ongoing contract until the summer of 2013, for anything under 12 million Euros.
