signing him this summer.
Arsenal, Newcastle United, Manchester United, Manchester City and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 are reportedly taking keen interest in acquiring the 25-year-old’s services in the upcoming summer transfer market.
Rafael van der Vaart, who is currently plying his trade at White Hart Lane, recently urged the Belgian International to join the Spurs despite being linked with a number of other English clubs.
However, the highly-rated central defender has revealed that he will only move to a club where he gets regular playing time.
“I have a choice. There's something happening with Tottenham, but there are other clubs interested. For me, it is important to get regular playing time. I also need a stable club”, Vertonghen was quoted as saying to the media.
Frank de Boer, the Amsterdammers head coach, earlier insisted that a move to La Liga giants, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, will suit the 25-year-old better.
However, Vertonghen is of the view that playing in the highest echelons of English football will benefit him better.
“In http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 started it and now you also see clubs like Newcastle United, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur playing good football”, the Belgian
stopper concluded.
Vertonghen, who has been plying his trade at Amsterdam Arena since the 2006/07 season, has thus far represented the Dutch giants in 146 matches. The Dutch defender has an ongoing contract with the Amsterdammers that runs until
the summer of 2013.
However, it is widely expected that the highly-talented central defender will leave the Eredivisie Champions in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Reports indicate that a transfer fee in the region of 12 million Euros would be needed to lure the Belgian International away from Amsterdam Arena.
