The 23-year-old scored twice to help his side claim the Eredivisie title with a 3-2 win over FC Twente last term and he found the target twice yet again in his side’s 2-0 win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VVV-Venlo-c40915.
Ajax Amsterdam midfielder-c*m-striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Siem-de-Jong-c33482, has revealed that it is just a coincidence that he scored twice to help his side claim the Eredivisie title.
The 23-year-old played an integral role, scoring a brace, in his side’s 3-2 win over FC Twente Enschede on the final day of the 2010/11 season that gave them their 30th title in the club’s history.
The Dutch International hit the target twice this time around as well, but against VVV-Venlo, that confirmed their status as the Dutch champions ahead of the final fixtures.
De Jong was extremely excited following his side’s 2-0 triumph over the Venlo outfit and revealed that it was just a coincidence that he managed to add his name to the score-sheet on two occasions.
“Yes, I have now scored twice in two consecutive seasons to claim the title, but that is just a coincidence. I failed to score against FC Twente last week, so I guess there is not much to say”, De Jong was quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
The 23-year-old went on to reveal that the joy was far greater when he scored against the Enschede giants last season as compared to his brace against the Venlo outfit on Wednesday, May 2.
“A striker is there to score, so I guess I did what I have to. When I scored twice against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 last season, the celebrations were far greater of course, because it was the title decider. This time around, everyone was expecting more”, De Jong added.
The midfield ace was all praise for his side’s consistent performances this year.
“We managed to win almost everything after the winter break. We have done well and there was a lot of confidence in the group. Without a doubt, the title is justified”, De Jong concluded.
The Amsterdam giants will play their final game of the 2011/12 campaign against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vitesse-c40905 Arnhem at GelreDome Stadion on Sunday, May 6.
