The Belgian stopper has insisted that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Niklas-Moisander-c27919 will be a perfect replacement of the 24-year-old rather than FC Twente’s defender.
With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814, this summer, the Amsterdammers management is in search of a perfect replacement for the Belgian stopper.
Reports indicate that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 Enschede central defender, Douglas, is on the Amsterdammers' radar after his consistent performances at De Grolsch Veste in the past couple of seasons.
However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toby-Alderweireld-c35183 is of the view that the Brazilian-born Dutch stopper is not an ideal replacement of Vertonghen.
“I do not thing FC Twente’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Douglas-c11600 is the right option. No doubt that he is a good defender, but he has often expressed his desire to move abroad. And I am sure that will not fit perfectly at Amsterdam Arena”, Alderweireld was quoted as saying to Nusport.nl.
The 23-year-old centre-back went on to admit that it will not be an easy task replacing his countryman.
“At Ajax, it is something different. Even defenders have to emphasise on keeping possession. It is not easy to replace Jan”, Alderweireld added.
The Belgian International, who has thus far made 79 appearances for the Amsterdam giants, has insisted that AZ Alkmaar’s Niklas Moisander would be a far better choice instead of Douglas. Moisander has been plying his trade at AFAS Stadion since the 2008/09
season and has thus far notched up 100 appearances for the Alkmaar outfit.
“Niklas is a complete defender. He has been consistent at the back and his ability to move forward with ease makes him a far better choice for Ajax”, Alderweireld concluded.
The 23-year-old is himself targeted by many European clubs, who have expressed interest in acquiring his services in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, the Belgian stopper has made it clear that he does not intend to move away from Amsterdam Arena
at this point of his career.
The Belgian International has an ongoing contract at the Amsterdammers that runs until the summer of 2014.
