The Belgian stopper urges his side to remain focused and look to bag all three points against De Graafschap in the upcoming encounter if they are to retain their Eredivisie title.
Ajax Amsterdam central defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toby-Alderweireld-c35183, has insisted that his side cannot afford a slip up at this stage of the season, as the chasing pack is not too far behind.
The reigning Eredivisie champions are at the summit of the league table, three points ahead of the second place, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar. In addition, they enjoy the best goal difference in the league.
Alderweireld, who has been plying his trade at Amsterdam Arena since the summer of 2008, has insisted that they must remain focused to claim maximum points if they are to defend the title.
“Title race is still open, and we are putting in our hundred per cent in every match, which can be seen in our game. Nonetheless, I am currently very happy with the way things are going”, Alderweireld said while talking to journalists.
The Amsterdam giants will take on De Graafschap in their upcoming league encounter at home on Sunday, April 15.
The Belgian stopper has asserted that his side tried to perform at their best in every match and their attitude does not change whether they face a title candidate or a relegation threatened side.
“We know very well that we should put in our hundred per cent every time. Otherwise, the momentum can tilt. We will try our best not to give away our position atop”, Alderweireld added.
The 23-year-old went on to reveal that they will try to assert their authority right from the beginning and pressurise the visiting side by scoring early goals.
“If we manage to score earlier, it will slightly become easier for us. If not, then we should continue playing aggressively. Graafschap might collapse at a later stage of the game, so we will also have to remain patient”, Alderweireld concluded.
De Graafschap are currently battling to prolong their stay in the Dutch top tier. Occupying the 17th spot on the league table, they are only a single point ahead of the automatic relegation spot.
