Ajay Chhatri and Hannah Thorne win fifth day of TransWales 2011 - Cycling News
Torq Team’s Ajay Chhatri showed a tremendous effort in the fifth day of TransWales 2011 on Friday, August 18. The race started in Machynlleth and ended in Cymystwyth.
The 8 kilometres time trial began with the rocky climbs and fast decent and finally came to an end at the valley floor. In the 8 kilometres course, Chhatri showed his outstanding performance and smashed the course in 21minutes and 15 seconds. He broke the
previous record set by the Jonathan Pugh in 2009.
Chhatri took the total of 21 minutes and 16 seconds to cover the distance of 75 kilometres. The four day winner Matthew Page of Wiggle was runner-up with a difference of 30 seconds.
Scott Cornish was in third place with 53 seconds and Matt Williams finished fourth with 1 minute and 29 seconds behind Chhatri.
In the solo veteran Men’s category, Stockport Clarion CC team’s Paul Whittaker dug deep and managed to grab the first place with the timing of 22 minutes and 59 seconds. Andy Jones (Clee Cycles KCNC) was in second place with 50 seconds and Gary Cousins finished
third with 2 minute and 4 seconds down to Paul.
Andy Jones took the overall solo veteran standing with the timing of 35 hours, 12 minutes and 6 seconds. Paul was runner-up with 36 seconds behind Jones while Roberts secured third with the difference of 2 minute and 11 seconds.
In the Women’s duo category, the two teams, Elizabeth Adams and Rosemary Byde (Team Number 28), and Steph Fountain and Lisa Bolton (Saddle Skedaddle) had great battle. While team number 28 was in first place with 28 minutes and 11 seconds and Steph and Lisa
was in third place with difference of 1 minute and 41 seconds.
Hannah Thorne was confident with his performance due to his previous result so she easily took the lead in the solo women category with 25 minutes and 27 seconds to cover the distance of 75 kilometres. Fiona Spotswood was in second place with 38 second behind
Thorne. Anna Buckingham (the big adventure store) was in third place with the difference of 5 minutes and 30 seconds.
Thorne took the overall standing with the timing of 35 hours, 15 minutes and 54 seconds while Spotswood was runner-up with difference of 47 seconds. Buckingham finished third with difference of 15 minutes and 22 seconds.
The next stage will run in Cymystwyth and end in Cilycwm and all the cyclists will cover the distance of 75 kilometres.
