Ajay Jayaram has a bright future after spirited display at 2011 World Championships
India’s emerging star, Ajay Jayaram, is working hard to get into the arena of top shuttlers in the world, and he is successful so far in his pursuit to perfection. The Indian displayed a wonderful performance against the 2010 World Champion, Chen Jin of
China in the Men’s Singles third-round of the 2011 World Championships, held at the Wembley arena, last week.
Jayaram, who has grabbed the 29th position in the Men’s Singles world rankings, played stunning badminton against Chen Jin, who is ranked at Number Six in the world standings. The young Indian played to his full potential with an incredible touch
of aggression in his style of play and forced the Chinese to dig deep into his arsenal to win the battle.
The Indian, who has been impressive throughout the previous matches at the World Championships, opened his campaign against the higher ranked shuttler of China and remained in a wonderful position throughout the opening set. Chen Jin failed to stop the aggression
of the Indian, who was fast in all areas of the court and was picking the bird with surprising ease.
Chen accelerated his speed in the second part of the opening set, but his opponent was not leaving any room and return the bird perfectly from everywhere in the court. Jayaram remained impressive in the first game and grabbed the attention of the huge crowd
at the Wembley Arena by playing top-class badminton.
His high jump smashes worked really well and his incredible defensive strokes put his opponent in an awkward position. The Chinese made many errors and lost the opening game to the Indian with the margin of 18-21, in 25 minutes.
In the second game of the Men’s Singles third round match, the starting points were thrilling as the Chinese accelerated his speed against the passionate Indian. Jayaram remained close in the initial points by playing an attacking game but his opponent started
to control the pace of the game by utilising his vast experience of international badminton. He put more variation in his speed and made his younger challenger struggle hard. The Chinese won the second game with a good margin of 21-12, in 20 minutes.
Jayaram played a changed game in the opening points of the final set and employed all of his court skills to compete well. He remained successful in competing well against the senior shuttler from China, but failed to maintain his momentum. Indian’s lack
of experience was the major reason which helped Chen to maintain his dominance in the third set. The Chinese won the final set with a 21-11 score, by working for 18 minutes. The concluding result of this third round clash was 18-21, 21-12 and 21-11.
Despite losing the match to the Chinese shuttler, the Indian proved that he is on the right track and if everything proceeds according to plan, he will become a world beater very soon.
