Ajay Jayaram ousts Sourabh Varma in Men’s Singles quarter-final at Li Ning China Masters 2012
India’s talented player Ajay Jayaram registered his supremacy on court as he powered his way into Men’s Singles semi-final after defeating his spirited compatriot Sourabh Varma in quarter-final clash at the Li Ning China Masters 2012 at Changzhou, China,
on Friday, September 14.
The in-form Jayaram, who is World Number 29 in Men’s Singles category at the moment, had to employ all of his skills to overpower his talented team-mate in a hard fought contest that took 48 minutes of attacking badminton from both contestants.
Jayaram lost the opening set in a one-sided fashion but found his way back in the following games and managed to win the match with a considerable margin in three games by taking 48 minutes on score board.
Young Sourabh, who is currently World Number 39 and the national champion in India, showed his aggression on court and took the first game but failed to live up to expectations in the following sets and went down to his experienced compatriot in rubber games
with a respectable margin.
In the first set, Jayaram showed his elevated craft on court as he played with tremendous speed and power in his shots which helped him to remain ahead of his rival on score board until the break.
However, Sourabh started to play with aggression towards the end of opening half and managed a wonderful lead while remaining focused.
Jayaram tried his best to stop the aggressive progress of his rival but failed and eventually lost the set with a 12-21 score on the board.
Sourabh was in tremendous form in the second game and he took a comfortable lead of 11-7 until the break.
However, Jayaram managed to make the score levelled at 14-14. At this stage, he found his rhythm and took seven points in a row to bag the set with a 21-14 margin on the board.
Deciding game was different as Jayaram was in charge this time by playing to his maximum potential and remained successful in winning the set with a comfortable margin of 21-16.
The spirited Jayaram managed to oust his team-mate in hard-fought three games with a reasonable 12-21, 21-14 and 21-16 score on the board.
