Ajay Jayaram stuns Kenichi Tago in Men’s Singles first round at Li Ning China Masters 2012
India’s elite shuttler Ajay Jayaram proved his mettle on court showing that he has achieved a certain level of skills as he outshined the higher ranked Kenichi Tago of Japan in Men’s Singles first round at the Li Ning China Masters 2012 on Wednesday, September
12, in China.
The un-seeded Jayaram, who is currently placed at number 32 in Men’s Singles world ranking, showed a steely determination on court as he crushed the World Number Nine Tago who was seeded at number three in the tournament.
It was a spectacular performance of Indian shuttler who was in commanding position on court and he easily registered a phenomenal victory over Tago in straight games with a huge margin by taking 40 minutes on court.
Tago, who was the favourite to win this battle, failed to put strong resistance against his spirited Indian opponent and bowed down against him in a smashing manner without showing his elevated class in front of Chinese crowd.
The opening game of this battle went against the favour of the higher ranked Japanese shuttler who failed to show great resistance against the power play of his Indian rival. He remained struggling far behind on score board until the end of first half.
After the interval, Jayaram continued showing his incredible skills on court while remaining quick in all areas. His foot work was impressively smooth which helped him to maintain a good rhythm and he managed to snatch the first game with a spectacular margin
of 21-13.
Jayaram played with precision in opening points of second game but failed to create a comfortable gap as his opponent was in pretty much control of the pace of rallies.
Tago showed great performance in the opening half of second set and took a superb lead of 11-6 until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Jayaram showed his brilliance as he geared up his speed and ended the gap by reaching at 13-13.
The Indian shuttler played dominating badminton at this crucial stage and took the game with a superb margin of 21-17.
The Spirited Jayaram emerged as the winner in this straight sets battle in 40 minutes by a 21-13 and 21-17 score on the board.
