Ajay Jayaram topples Arif Ramadhan in qualifying round of the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series
India’s rising star, Ajay Jayaram, toppled Indonesia’s Arif Ramadhan in the Men’s Singles qualifying-round match of the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series. The encounter was held in Indonesia, on June 21, 2011.
Ajay, who stands at the Number 38 spot in the Men’s Singles world rankings, consumed little time to thrash the local shuttler. He played to his full potential and finished the straight-sets battle in just 29 minutes.
In the first set of the game, both youngsters were close until the one-minute interval, where Jayaram had an advantage with a 11-9 lead. The Indian was playing with precision, whereas, the Indonesian was heavily relying on his powerful smashes coupled with
superb drives.
In the second-half of the opening game, both shuttlers were in equal control as they were playing at the same level of the game, with similar pace. However, the Indian worked well in the end of the first set, as he became fast at the net and created opportunities
to hit powerful smashes. He won the set in 16 minutes with a decent margin of 21-18.
The Indian opened the second set in an authoritative manner, as he scored three consecutive points against Ramadhan, who was not playing planned badminton. The score was 4-4, when the Indian geared up his speed and elevated his level of play, which assisted
him in building a four-point gap at 8-4.
Jayaram was on top, as he showed no mercy to his rival and progressed in the game without facing any sort of resistance from Ramadhan. At the interval, the Indian was ahead at 11-4.
After the break, Jayaram kept his flow going by playing with the same accuracy. He finished the second game by consuming only 13 minutes in the court, with a dramatic difference of 21-5. The concluding result of this one-sided 29-minute battle was 21-18
and 21-5.
In the next stage of the qualifying round, Jayaram will take on Joachim Persson of Denmark, who defeated Dicky Palyama of Netherlands in his first match.
