Ajay Jayaram wants to break into top-15 by the end of current year – Badminton news
Ajay Jayaram, one of the most talented players India has ever produced, got disappointed for not qualifying for Olympic Games 2012 but he is determined to prove his worth in upcoming tournaments and break into top-15 positions in the world by the end of
ongoing year.
Jayaram, currently World Number 26 in Men’s Singles category, lost to Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei in the India Open Super Series 2012 which cost him an Olympic berth.
His compatriot and contender for the seat Parupalli Kashyap reached in the semi-final of India Open and got more ranking points which helped him to supersede Jayaram in world rankings and enabled him to qualify for Olympics.
Jayaram, who remained number one in India for many months, could not just finish it well in India Open, which was the last qualifying-round tournament for Olympic Games.
While talking about his feeling after losing his berth to Olympics, Jayaram said that is very disappointing to lose at the last moment.
He said, “Representing a country in the Olympics is every player's dream. It hurts when you fall short at the last moment. I should have booked the berth earlier and should not have left it till the last tournament.”
However, the spirited Indian does not want to dwell in the past as he wants to proceed and has set a high target for himself to reach into the top 15 positions in the world in the next few months.
Jayaram is on a short break now and will resume his training in a few days.
He said, "I am taking a break of few days just to recharge my batteries. I want to train hard and excel in the Indonesia and Singapore Super Series in June. My target is to play semis or final of the next few Super Series so that I can break into the world's
top-15 by year end."
Jayaram has been proving his worth in international tournaments for the last couple of years and has defeated many top shuttlers in the arena of badminton.
Now he is determined to get an elevated position in the world by performing well in the forthcoming tournaments.
