Ajjaadd seeking second SIS Live Handicap win at Leicester
Ajjaadd’s decent running in better company suggests that he will go pretty well in his attempt to follow up last year’s SIS Live Handicap victory at Leicester. The 2012 edition of the class 3 meeting is due to take place on Monday, September 24, 2012.
Ted Powell’s charge was mighty impressive last year. He was slowly into stride early on. Things started getting worse when he was outpaced in the middle stages of the 5-furlong event.
Not losing his determination, the 11-2 favourite turned the table around, and ran on to lead well inside the final furlong. A very strong finish guided the American horse to an easy 1¼-length triumph.
Owned by Katy & Lol Pratt, the son of Elusive Quality clinched many fine wins last year, but has not yet shown a winning effort this season. The Darley-bred suffered a few awful defeats at the start of this season. After collecting plenty of embarrassment,
the 6-year-old finally got it right last time.
Although he could not share the podium, it was not a disgraceful defeat at Sandown. In the Piper Heidsieck Champagne Handicap, Ajjaadd missed the third position by a length’s distance. It was a very close battle, and Ted Powell’s trainee did reasonably well
to grab the fourth place.
Ajjaadd has sweet memories of this venue, thus one should not rule out his chances. There is some moisture in Leicester’s surface, but it should not be a concern for him.
Including him, there are 15 horses in the crew. The going is good to soft for the 5f2y meeting, which is scheduled to get underway at 16:00 GMT. The victor will receive a cheque worth £7,116.
If the ground deteriorates, R Woody could be the one to be on. He is well handicapped, and has had excuses on both starts for his new trainer, Robert Cowell. The 5-year-old was not very far away here 12 months ago, and can present a better show this time
around. New Planet is also of interest.
The aforementioned pair has decent claims, but the bettors should stick only with Ajjaadd, who can enjoy the party here for the second time. Good luck to all the horses.
