Ajmal was a big setback for Faisalabad Wolves, says Mohammad Hafeez – Cricket News Update
The Captain of Lahore http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898, led his side to an impressive Faysal Bank T20 championship win after defeating Faisalabad Wolves in the final at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Hailing his own team’s performance in the domestic tournament, the skipper
added that the absence of spin wizard Saeed Ajmal was a setback for their opponents.
“I must give credit to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 and his team, for being so consistent throughout the event despite having minimal resources in the side. I think absence of Saeed Ajmal was a big setback for them, but, after all, we managed to get a fighting total and
successfully defend it,” said Hafeez.
After taking over from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Yousuf-c77465 (shortly before the tournament began), Hafeez led the Lions to the title and cleared doubts over his leadership skills, raised following the World T20 semi-final defeat. He led from the front, both as a captain and
a player, scoring a total of 208 runs in 5 innings and grabbing 11 wickets.
Having defeated the Misbah-led Faisalabad Wolves by 33 runs in the final, Hafeez shared, “It was a great team effort and full credit to my side. Everyone in the side had one goal: to win the championship.”
Brushing aside comments about his individual performance, Hafeez added, “I, being a captain, had to perform and had to contribute in the team success. There is nothing such as I was out there to prove any point.”
Misbah ul Haq, leading Faisalabad Wolves, was the top scorer for his side with a 37-run knock. However, he believes his side was off-track during the finale chase, not being able to recover from the early losses.
Faisalabad Wolves were unbeaten in the entire championship, up to the finale. However, ace-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 had to leave after playing 3 games, in order to participate in the Australian Big Bash League. His absence was a setback but it was not the bowling
attack that cost Faisalabad the game, rather it was the failure of their batsmen, as skipper Misbah reflected.
Captaining the T20 side for the upcoming clash against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, later this month, Hafeez shared that he assessed the performances of a few players in the domestic tournament, and will discuss potential prospects with the selection committee in the near future.
