Akash Chopra suggests BCCI to make lively wickets – Cricket News Update
Former Indian opener, Akash Chopra, has advised the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) to prepare lively and grassy pitches so that Team Indian can perform consistently on foreign tours.
Chopra believes that the runs which are scored on the flat and dry Indian wickets, are ‘unrealistic’. He claims that the players, who are used to bat on the batting-friendly tracks, fail to face the bounce and seam while playing in England or Australia.
The former batsman aired these views in the wake of the Indian offspinner, Ravichandran Ashwin’s criticism on the wicket of Wankhede Stadium, where he could not stop the Caribbean Kings from lashing a mammoth total of 590 runs.
Talking to the media today, Chopra said, “The BCCI needs to understand that if we have good wickets we can produce good cricketers. If we want to do well in countries like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 where the wickets are lively, we need good wickets
at home.”
Chopra is currently leading the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kumar-Shri-Ranjitsinhji-c71870 Trophy tournament. Under his leadership, the team won the event’s last edition.
Commenting on his team’s performances, he told, “We played some good teams like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Karnataka-c801 and now we are back on home turf. That gives us confidence and if we manage to notch a couple of outright victories we would be back in reckoning.”
Some analysts suggest that Chopra’s suggestion to change the pitches holds water in the current perspective when the Men in Blue are ready to fly to Australia for a high-voltage Test series. It is feared that they may have to face the same challenges which
let them down during the last tour of England.
The World Champions lost all the games they played against the English, and consequently lost their No.1 position in International Test rankings.
Moreover, history shows that the Men in Blue have never been able to play confidently on the green tops like those of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 and Australia. However, they are invincible on their home grounds where they lifted the World Cup 2011
trophy a few months back.
