Akeed Mofeed likely to win Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby (Group 1)
Akeed Mofeed is tipped to prevail in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby (Group 1) (Entire Colts & Fillies) at Curragh in Ireland on Saturday, June 30, 2012. A cash prize of €725,000 will be awarded to the winner of the 1 mile 4 furlong event.
The track conditions will be soft and a total of seven runners will battle for victory. The competition will really be a close one, but there is a solid chance for Akeed Mofeed to finish at the top of the table, as he appears to be in very good shape right now.
The three-year-old colt has only participated in three races and it will be a challenge for him to do well on the soft ground. However, he is a confident runner and should not have any issues with the conditions.
Dubawi’s son made his horseracing debut in August last year and performed decently back then. Although he failed to make it to the top three, he fought hard to secure the fourth place. This was not a bad result, as there were some very good runners up against him. He had entered that event with a starting price of 10 to 1 and finished just a neck distance short of the horse ahead of him.
In the second race of his career, Akeed Mofeed was able to cause an upset, as he stormed to a victory by five lengths. He started well in that event and held onto the lead until the end.
This performance earned the John M. Oxx’s trainee more respect amongst the bookies, thus he was rated as the favourite to win his third race. However, he suffered an upset defeat this time, failing to meet the expectations of his fans.
Despite not being able to finish on the top, Akeed Mofeed secured the runner up spot by a half length. Since then, he has not taken part in any race and will be making his first appearance of 2012 today.
The young colt has been given a general starting price of 20 to 1 for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby and will definitely be a top contender for victory. He will be partnered by seasoned jockey, William Buick, who has got a terrific record in the sport.
