Akgul Amanmuradova hits back at Cristina Dinu in round one – Ankara Cup 2012
Uzbekistani starlet, Akgul Amanmuradova, made an epic comeback from a set down to overpower the Romanian challenger, Cristina Dinu, in a three-set thriller at the Ankara Cup 2012 on Monday. She clobbered a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 success against the Romanian teenager
to charge into the round of 16 at this indoor hard court tournament taking place in Ankara, Turkey.
The Uzbek showed tremendous skills to outsmart Dinu in their first encounter. After recording the victory in almost two and half hours, Amanmuradova convincingly powered into the second round at this ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit
event taking place from 17th to 23rd December.
The 19-year-old quickly made on the right track. She swiftly pocketed her entire serves with conviction and got the breakthrough near the end, eventually sealing the opener by winning six games to four. She was never threatened with any barrier and converted
the lone break chance to move a step closer towards her goal.
Amanmuradova rebounded in the following set. After Dinu held her serve in the fourth game, the Uzbek unleashed barrage of groundstrokes and reeled off four games in a row. She blocked both breakpoints she faced and cashed half of the four break opportunities
to pull out the equaliser with a 6-2 score line.
Ranked 206th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Amanmuradova held her composure in the deciding set. After Dinu held her serve in the sixth game at 3-3, the Uzbek stroke out the last three games and clicked the decider with
a 6-3 success. She fended off all three breakpoints she encountered and marked one out of five break opportunities to earn the fame.
Next in line for Amanmuradova is the winner of the match between sixth seeded Chiara Scholl and the Georgian challenger, Oksana Kalashnikova.
The second seed, Monica Puig, also stole the spotlight earlier that day. She bounced back to formulate a 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-1 score line against Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Mervana Jugic-Salkic. The Puerto Rican warded off two match points before pulling out the
equaliser. She then went berserk in the deciding set and eventually clinched the match with a breadstick.
