Akihiro Yamaguchi conquers Men’s 200m breaststroke heats – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
Akihiro Yamaguchi of Japan conquered the preliminary round of Men’s 200m breaststroke on day four of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Sunday, August 26.
Yamaguchi lived up to the expectations of his supporters as he dominated the top qualification spot of the event. He remained in a comfortable lead over his opponents and tapped the wall for first position.
The Japanese swimmer remained considerably ahead of his opponents from the start and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 10.44 seconds.
He was chased by Eric Ronda of USA, who remained 3.22 seconds slower from his former finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 13.66 seconds.
Ronda was traced by Will Licon of USA, who remained only 0.09 seconds slower from his foregoing swimmer and qualified into the playoff as third fastest swimmer by producing a time of 2 minutes and 13.75 seconds.
Licon was followed by Kazuki Kohinata of Japan, who stayed one and a half body length slower from overpowering his preceding swimmer and secured fourth best qualifying position by reporting an effort of 2 minutes and 15.10 seconds.
Subsequently, fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Joshua Tierney of Australia, who remained 2.01 seconds apart and ended his race in fifth best place by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 17.11 seconds.
Tierney was trailed by Buster Sykes of Australia, who stayed 0.03 seconds behind and secured sixth position of the event by touching the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 17.14 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the race was obtained by Jonathan Naisby of Canada, who stayed 1.21 seconds behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 18.35 seconds.
Naisby was traced by Evan White of Canada, who remained nearly four body lengths behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 22.12 seconds for eighth qualifying position.
In addition, Yamaguchi was contented with his fastest qualification effort in the discipline and expressed his desire of securing gold medal by dominating the playoff of the discipline.
