Akihiro Yamaguchi earns Men’s 200m breaststroke gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Tokyo
Akihiro Yamaguchi of Japan earned gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke on initial day of the seventh stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday, November 6.
The Japanese swimmer showered his expertise in the distant breaststroke discipline and overpowered his opponents on the finishing blockade for the title.
With his immaculate efforts in the breaststroke discipline, Yamaguchi remained comfortably ahead of his opponents from the start and rushed his way towards the wall for the title by producing a time of 2 minutes and 04.64 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Kazuki Kohinata of Japan, who stayed 0.98 seconds slower and tapped the wall for silver medal by submitting an effort of 2 minutes and 05.62 seconds.
Kohinata was followed by Yukihiro Takahashi of Japan, who was 0.15 seconds slower and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 05.77 seconds for bronze medal.
Takahashi was chased by Sean Mahoney of USA, who was only an inch slower from securing third position but failed to match Takahashi’s pace in the final lap and ended fourth in the race by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 05.93 seconds.
Similarly, fifth spot of the race was obtained by Naoya Tomita of Japan, who stayed 0.93 seconds slower and touched the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 06.86 seconds.
Tomita was traced by Kazuki Hayashi of Japan, who was one and a half body length behind and concluded his race in sixth place by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 08.15 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Yuuki Kanaya of Japan, who was 1.07 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 09.22 seconds.
Kanaya remained 3.37 seconds faster from Ryosuke Shimizu of Japan, who posted an effort of 2 minutes and 12.59 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Yamaguchi received a huge round of applause from the audience for his scintillating form in the breaststroke discipline and stressed that he would try his level best to impress his fans by excelling in the same event at World Championships.
