Akira Koga stuns Hans Kristian Vittinghus in Men’s Singles first round at Japan Open 2012
Japan’s talented player Akira Koga showed a tremendous performance and cheered his home crowd as he overpowered his higher ranked opponent Hans Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark in Men’s Singles first round at Yonex Japan Open 2012 in Japan, on Wednesday, September
19.
The impressive Akira showed his tremendous run on court and remained successful in creating an upset as he emerged as the winner against Hans Kristian who has been positioned at number 15 in Men’s Singles world ranking.
Akira, who is an un-seeded shuttler in the main draw, defied all odds and made his presence strongly felt to the world by playing to his maximum potential and managed to overwhelm Hans Kristian in three games with a convincing margin on score board.
On the other hand, the higher ranked Danish shuttler failed to show his aggression on court as he did not expect a tough resistance from an un-seeded Japanese shuttler. He committed many mistakes and eventually went down against Koga in rubber sets.
In the first game, Hans Kristian played with precision and also made his rival work hard to return the well executed strokes. He set up a remarkable gap until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Akira tried to reduce the deficit by playing attacking badminton but he failed to push his rival on back foot and lost the set with a 13-21 score on the board.
However, the Japanese shuttler entertained his home fans by playing superb badminton in the following set and remained ahead until the one-minute break.
Akira remained in complete control after the break as he did not commit any mistake and finally took the game with a crushing difference of 21-15.
The deciding game was shocking for the Danish player who failed to cope up with the growing pressure and remained far behind until the end of opening game.
After the break, Akira continued showing up his spectacular performance on court and he eventually ended up the third game with a huge 21-13 score on the board.
Akira sent Hans Kristian packing in first round contest with an interesting margin of 13-21, 21-15 and 21-13.
