Akmal, the wounded soldier
Respect. One cannot understand this concept untill someone truly brave and warrior like, hailing from the not so Japanese city of Lahore, comes forward like a lost samurai, and tries to regain his lost honour. And what better way to regain lost glory than to make brilliant excuses. Kamran Akmal might not be the best keeper behind the wicket but he surely is one of the most creative excuse makers the Pakistan side has ever seen.
A lot of people have had to face embarrassing situations in their lives, starting from childhood when they wet their pants in first grade to when they spilt coffee on their 7th grade crush, to when they dropped 14 catches in an international cricket match. It’s okay. Human’s are made to err. A person is not a human if he does not err, and if one does make a mistake the natural course for people to take is to accept that they did make a mistake. However one man, and I insist on calling him king for he is spectacular at what he does, has left his critics tounge tied. He has come forward like a wounded soldier and told us the heart wrenching story of his ordeal at Edgbaston where more than the remorse he faced for dropping many catches in the last test he felt angered to see a new wicket keeper playing in his place.
During that time, when the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 team completely embarrassed themselves and the last thing they could have done was to cry at their fate, when the same wicket keeper, Zulqarnain came and played absolutely wonderful cricket. But we need to understand, that more than the ability to play cricket PCB values thinkers who think and reflect. While Zulqarnain was playing the knock of the test match with the bowler Saeed Ajmal to take Pakistan to a respectable position, the wounded soldier was taking notes in his clever little mind, practicing how to catch; an art that has eluded him for years.
How he managed to learn wicket keeping in the span of a day, for the second time, is something we cannot comprehend. Not only did Zulqarnain bat like an absolute prodigy, he also took brilliant catches as keeper. However, we must give credit to Akmal for standing in front of the mirror, looking at his reflection and admiring his voluptuous curves. He knew he looked beautiful.
“Missing the match at Edgbaston gave me the ideal opportunity to assess my game and it was the perfect time for some reflection.” exclaimed the confident Akmal.
He knew perfectly well that he was at the top of his game and loved seeing his own silhouette in a darkened dressing room. He called out to the reflection, “mirror mirror on the wall, who is the most voluptuous of them all?”
“You” replied the mirror. Kamran knew, he had recovered his fitness. He picked up a pen, threw it in the air, and with great style brought his hand beneath it, missing it by a fraction of a second. Zulqarnain, had the match of his life. He gave Pakistan much needed hope, and the cricketing world was all praises for this talented young man.
With great precision Kamran dialled a telepathic call to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128. “Mr Butt, I have reflected". He said in a grave tone.
Mr Butt knew what was required. He had to bring the man back. Despite allegations of poor keeping, Akmal was innocent Mr Butt knew it for it was like accusing a legless man of running slowly on purpose. The PCB, also known as Mr Butt’s school for the gifted, wanted to give the brave young man another chance, since PCB is an equal opportunity employer for physically challenged wicket keepers.
