Akmal brothers send Majeed a legal notice for his spot-fixing claims
After Imran Farhat, two more Pakistan cricketers, Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal, have sent legal notices to the bookmaker http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket.
Saud Nasrullah, lawyer of Akmal brothers, told the media reporters on Wednesday that he had sent off the legal notices asking the Pakistan born bookmaker Mazhar Majeed to either come up with more details to support his claims that the cricketing
brothers were involved in spot-fixing or apologise.
"Either he must come up with more details to back his statement that Kamran and Umar were involved with him in spot fixing or he must publicly apologise or face a suit for damages," said Nasrullah.
The Notice was sent to the bookmaker’s address in UK. The lawyer further added that his clients are quite upset by the claims of Majeed as it was an attempt to defame them.
"Kamran and Umar are very upset by the allegations made by Mazhar Majeed and believe it is an attempt to defame them and hurt their reputation," he said.
The bookie, in a video clip broadcasted by a Pakistan news channel earlier this month had claimed that four Pakistan players – Kamran Akmal, Umra Akmal, Imran Farhat nad Wahab Riaz – have been working for him. Earlier in his video, broadcasted
by a British tabloid News of the World, Majeed had named the three suspended players - Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir - for their alleged involvement in spot-fixing during the fourth Test against England at Lord’s in August. So this takes the
number of Pakistani players alleged for being involved in spot-fixing to seven.
The Test opener Imran Farhat has already sent Majeed a legal notice demanding him to “either tender an unconditional apology or face a suit for damages," as Farhat said "I can't tolerate anyone making such allegations against me and trying
to defame me.”
Akmal brothers admitted that Majeed had been their agent, they however, denied any information about Majeed’s involvement into illegal bookmaking. Akmal brothers, according to Nasrullah, feel that the bookie had tried to misuse his position
as that of the player’s and in doing so, has brought a bad name to the team.
