Akram Khan appointed as Chief Selector by Bangladesh Cricket Board
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed former captain, Akram Khan, as the Chief of the new Selection Committee. The other two members of the committee are going to be former captains Habibul Bashar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Minhajul-Abedin-c76335.
The new Selection Committee will take over from the first of June and they have a big challenge ahead of them after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747’s disastrous performance in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
An official of the BCB, Jalal Yunus, said after the announcement that there were no question marks over the appointment of Akram Khan as the Chief Selector among the board officials. He also added that majority of the board memebers also supported Bashar
and Abedin as the other two selectors.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yunus-c98347 said after the meeting, "The board was unanimous about Akram Khan's selection as the chief selector while majority were in favour of Minhaz and Bashar. We will fix the terms and references after discussions with them within the next month. Definitely
we will prefer a long-term contract but everything will be decided after the discussions."
Akram on the other hand expressed pleasure at his appointment as the Chief Selector. He has also worked as the selector in the previous two selection committees.
He said that he is fortunate to be given this opportunity and his role would be to find young players for the country because the national team does not have good back-up players. Akram feels that the Under-19 cricket and academies are crucial in order to
find new talent.
"I'm lucky that the authorities kept faith in me. My main challenge will be to bring enough players in the pipeline. Right at this moment we don't have enough back-up players, so we must concentrate on the Under-19, Academy and A teams and we must expand
our network to find new talent," Akram said.
Bangladesh cricket team has shown some impressive performances over the last 14 months in international cricket but they have had a poor World Cup at home which was quite a huge disappointment for the cricket fans in the country. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bengal-c771 Tigers' suppporters
