The versatile player from Lyon is set to join Al-Ain in the coming days as the in-demand winger snubbed offers from many established clubs across Europe.
The player’s representative confirmed that Michel Bastos has rejected offers from established clubs across Europe in a bid to join Al-Ain club, which was always his preferred destination. Emmanuel de Kerchove said, “Out of the four choices Al-Ain is his
first”.
The 29-year-old had been subjected to strong interest from Napoli, Spartak Moscow and Olympiakos, yet opted for the UAE based outfit, reportedly after having discussions with compatriots, Grafite and Emerson about the prospects and adaptability in the Pro
League.
But, this was not the only reason behind the move. Kerchove said, “He is excited because the standard of the league is good, with an emphasis on offensive football, a more open style, much like in Brazil”.
Lyon could have seen the departure of their in-demand Brazilian as early as three weeks ago, but the deal did not materialise then, as the two clubs disputed over the transfer fee.
According to reports, the 10 million euro demand from Lyon was initially met with a 6 million euro bid from the interested party. Later, the two sides agreed to show a little flexibility and a reported fee in the range of 7.5 to 8 million euros has been
agreed.
According to the Brazilian’s agent, “Michel is going there to stay. I know a lot of Brazilian players come for six months or one year but in Michel’s mind he is there to stay”.  The inner satisfaction of the player has been a big motivation for him, as the
highly talented player is looking forward to winning the Asian Champions League and making history with the club.
The signing of Bastos and securing a permanent move for Asamoah Gyan earlier from Sunderland, has given a vital boost to the club and the club finds itself in a good position to challenge for honours this campaign.
It is pertinent to mention here that Asamoah was the top goal scorer for Al-Ain last season, and the addition of Michel is surely going to strengthen the attacking flair of the side manifold.
