Al-Amin Majid, the new Deputy President of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), is looking forward to find new talent form the 100Plus National Junior Circuit GP Finals, which will kick off from Wednesday, May 18, at Bukit Kiara Stadium, Malaysia.
The Final is quite important for all participants as the best performers can find a place in the national squad through this event. Shuttlers from every corner of Malaysia will appear in this junior event which is sponsored by 100Plus.
There will be 322 males and females participants in various categories including Under-12, Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18. Lucrative prize money of RM 22,800 will be awarded to the winners.
Majid has an objective of producing quality shuttlers from the juniors and elevate them to the level of World Number 1, Lee Chong Wei. The Deputy President also said that he will remain in search of players through development programmes in the whole country.
“I want to do more for the development of the sport as we need to ensure we get enough player coming through the ranks. Right now, there has been lots of criticism that gap between the back-up players and world No. 1 Chong Wei is huge. I hope to help out
in this area as we need proper planning and more emphasis on development,” Majid said.
The Deputy President further expressed that there are many players who found their place in the national squad through their performance in the Junior Circuit. Among these shuttlers, who have become graduates now, are Goh Liu Ying, Tan Boon Heong, Woon Khee
Wei, Chan Peng Soon, Koo Kien Keat and many others.
Majid expressed that the post of Deputy President does not mean it is a passage towards the President of Badminton Association of Malaysia, rather it is a bigger responsibility to fulfil. He is determined to put all of his efforts to justify his new position
by working with honesty and dedication for the development of the game in Malaysia.
