  1. If car makers had to wait until your car was 15 years old, before you buy a new car, they'll starve.

15 years old cars are a rarity. they are inefficient and uncomfortable compared to the last year cars.

  2. Actually, most republicans are the hardcore capitalists, and if they had their way you'd be buying a new car every 3 years.

Update - It was a political statement for a political question. Al Gore seems to be the Anti-Christ in some circles. Mainly the anti-global warming circle. I think he's probably doing what any smart investor is doing. Investing in the future.

  3. As long as it can pass the emmissions testing, why?

  4. It doesn't really matter.

The average car is driven half of its lifetime mileage in its first 6 years; if it even makes it to 15, it doesn't have many miles left in it.  When you consider what is going to happen when fuel prices have doubled again, nobody (except for collectors) is going to want to drive those cars.  The problem will solve itself.

  5. The 1% of vehicles on the road that are older than 15 years or have bad exhaust systems cause 95% of the vehicle-related air pollution.  If you take any of the politics out of it, it make sense.  Who knows what his agenda really is though.  In reality it would be better for the environment to get these cars off the road, but until the government wants to fund the new cars, not too many of us can afford to do it.

  6. Nobody cares what Al Gore wants.

  7. iDk... but if you ask me i think we should just cut the vehicles all together.. cars are ruining the world because pollution... HoRses Rule! lets get back to western times!

  8. I don't recall the quote.

However, the current legislation might well kill what remains of the US auto industry.

Only a few companies like Toyota and Honda make enough profit to sustain the pace of development.  Every new burden is another nail in the coffin.

Honda's ULEV technology, if legislated as a mandate, could have shut down domestric auto production years ago.

  9. Maybe he'd like it better if I shoved my 30 year old car up HIS ***!

  10. If Al wants to buy me a new car every 15 years Ill be glad to drive them

  11. If he wants to buy me a newer vehicle, I'm all for it...

...until that time, I'll have to stick with vehicles that I can afford - because not everyone can afford a $300+/month car payment (MUCH higher if you happen to want to buy a hybrid or another "green" vehicle).

  12. I wonder what Al Gore would think if I ditched my '93 Astro Van and '93 Civic and bought a brand spanking new 2008 Hummer??

  13. I wonder if he'll make an exception for me? I own a 1974 1 ton big block dually that gets about 4 mpg. I love the ride and the chicks dig it.

  14. Why would I or anyone else with an IQ above room temperature care what Al (no controlling legal authority) Gore thinks?  I have a 1985 Toyota pick than runs just fine and I'm likely to buy a pre 1979 (no smog requirements) pickup in the near future.

  15. Why not change only the Engine. There is no problem with the body. So that it is economical and taking care of environment and running. The car companies should think of.

  16. No, I don't think he is .  But smog check and good fuel efficiency will do the job just fine.

  17. I can't wait for the opportunity of buying a plug in electric-hybrid, or a straight electric car.  Not because I love hugging tree's (mmm knotty-pine), but because it performs the same as today's (yesterdays) cars - if you are paying .60 cents per gallon of gas.  Sure, you can only go 300 miles before you got to plug in for another four hours, but I have a van for long road trips.

It saves money, has no exhaust, is quiet, and will be available between 20-30 grand.

I had a 1969 Mustang.  It was great, when it ran.  I had to fix it all the time.  If it wasn't broke, then some-one was stealing letters or running horse logos off of it.  It drank gas like I drink beer, and it left oil where-ever I parked, no matter how hard I tried to fix it.  While I hated to let it go, I had to.  Like shooting a wounded old horse I guess, but the time comes when you gotta mothball the museum pieces and get something new.

I don't think it sounds like global warming working for big business because I think big business wants to keep us in the guzzlers.  Perhaps it is big business reluctantly trying to minimize the losses they will see from a future where we no-longer use gas for auto fuel, so they want to sell as many new high mileage gas & gas-hybrids as possible (expletive omitted).  Then eventually these vehicles will be sitting in the yard.  I don't want to be stuck still making payments for a vehicle for which fuel may or may not be available.

I have a wife and two children that I care about and I don't want them in a 15 year old car because of safety.  Maybe if Jay Leno was doing the upkeep I would feel okay about it, but that is not going to happen.

  18. Because the old cars dont get any good mpg.

  19. Who cares.  Al Gore is a world renowed political icon.

Unlike any Conservative I know.  You should stick with

the winning team.  And leave from these brainless

Republicans.  Vote Democrats in 2008.  Because you

    know,  that America will......

  20. Al who?
