Tennis players are enjoying holidays and some of the fans are already waiting anxiously for the New Year to begin so that they will witness some of the elite icons back in action. However, the Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge has started
this week and features some of the upcoming stars; will play a vital role in ending the tennis withdrawal symptoms that are associated with the closure of the Association of Tennis Professionals and Women Tennis Association year-end tournaments.
The Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge is contested in Dubai and will satisfy the needs the needs of those who are feeling the need of play. It will be contested at the Habtoor Grand Beach Resort and Spa and also features three of the
Top-100 players which include the likes of the 20-year-old Serb, Bojana Jovanovski who will accompany the 52nd ranked Romanian, Irina Camelia Begu and the 81st ranked Nina Bratchikova. The Japanese veteran, Kimiko Date-Krumm, who is a
former world number four, will also participate in the contest.
Former world number one, Jelena Jankovic, was also present in Dubai and honoured the draw ceremony of the tournament with her appearance. She was consulted by the media reporters towards the end of the event. While expressing her
delight to be at the ceremony, the 27-year-old Jankovic said, “It’s an honour for me to be here. I have great memories of winning this tournament. I’m just happy to see everyone here again and I’m looking forward to enjoying some great competition this week.
I think we’re going to have some great tennis. One of the tough first round matches to look out for is Anastasija Sevastova against Kimiko Date-Krumm. I invite as many people as possible to come and watch the tennis here all week. It’s a beautiful place, great
weather and some great matches. We’re going to have fun.”
The Russian former Top-40 player, Vera Dushevina, will also take part in the contest which will definitely bring a lot more viewership for the event organizers and enhance the sponsorship in return. World number 208, Noppawan Lertcheewakarn,
won the Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge last year and is pleased to return back and defend all her points this season.
