Al Habtoor defeat Dubai Falcons in Polo Exhibition match: Polo News
After a nail-biting competition, Al Habtoor Polo Team emerged victorious over Dubai Falcons by a narrow one-goal difference in the High Handicap Polo Exhibition match played at the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Some six Argentinean polo pros graced the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club in the first 26-goal handicaps match. The Astrada family though performed for the first time in the Middle East, but it has donned the colours around the earth. It was a final game of
the 2011 Dubai Polo season hosted under the flag of Dubai Polo Gold Cup.
Al Habtoor Polo Team displayed matured game and scored eight goals against the seven of their competitors. Mohammad Al Habtoor stole the show and lit the lamp four times in the victory.
The team of Al Habtoor was comprised Mohammad of Al Habtoor, Eduardo Novillo Astrada, Ignacio Novillo Astrada and Alejandro Novillo Astrada while the Dubai Falcons team was consisted of Saeed Bin Drai, Julio Novillo Astrada, Miguel Novillo Astrada and Javier
Novillo Astrada.
The high handicapped game started in the presence of hundreds of spectators where both sides showed a disciplined game. Al Habtoor, the skipper notched four points respectively, in the first, second, fourth and fifth chukkas and rendered a best show in the
crucial game. From the other side, Ignacio Novillo Astrada was the leading striker who scored three goals. He managed the goals in the first, third and final set of plays.
Saeed Bin Drai, the captain of the Dubai Falcons and his team-mate, Julio Novillo, Astrada notched two goals each in the loss.
The Astrada family has had world class players who are shining the grace of polo across the globe. The team founded in the headship of Julio Novillo Astrada that dominated the world of polo for last six decades. It has won many high profile titles including
Hurlingham Open, Argentina Open and the Tortugas Open that awarded them the most prestigious award of Triple Crown.
Chairman of Emaar Group, Mohammad Al Abbar, distributed the prizes among the winners and runners-up teams. Mohammad Al Habtoor, the captain of Al Habtoor was awarded ‘The Kings Cup’. Humaid Bin Drai, the Patron of Polo was also present during the occasion.
Mohammad Al Habtoor, the winning captain while speaking to the media said that the game could be further improved and promoted through hosting such high handicap matches. Applauding the visiting Astrada family, he said that they were outstanding in the game
and would help them to uphold the game’s standard in the region. A high-handicap match should be hosted regularly in the Dubai Polo & and Equestrian Club, he added.
