Al Harris signs with the Miami Dolphins
Veteran cornerback Al Harris has signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins and practiced with the team on Wednesday. In order to make room on the roster for the 35-year-old, the Dolphins released former first-round pick Jason Allen who is ten years
Harris' junior.
Harris will be returning to his home town after being released by the Green Bay Packers only two days earlier.
"Al is excited to be playing in his hometown," Harris' agent Jack Bechta said when he confirmed the news of Harris' signing to the National Football Post on the morning of Wednesday, 10 November. "He has intimated to me that he wants to play as long as he
can. Hopefully, this is the beginning of a new road. He's eager to play right away and also eager to play for a few more years."
Bechta also reported to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that, after Harris had been put on waivers, he had been courted by several other teams including the Minnesota Vikings, the Houston Texans, and the Detroit Lions.
Harris has played 12 seasons in the NFL, seven of them with the Green Bay Packers who released him only days ago. Harris had started the season on the physically unable to perform list leading Harris to say in a text message, "I lost my job to injury, but
I have only good things to say about Green Bay and everyone I worked with."
Jason Allen, has been trying to shake the label of draft bust for a while now and has only started 19 games in his five seasons with the Dolphins. He was replaced by last week by Sean Smith in the Dolphins' 26-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
If Harris is ready to go he could get a huge test right away potentially covering Randy Moss who recently signed with the Tennessee Titans – Miami's next opponent this Sunday.
