Al Kazeem lands successful in Prince of Wales's Stakes – Horseracing News
Al Kazeem showed impressive form in the Prince of Wales's Stakes (Group 1), winning the event by a neck-distance.
The five-year-old horse has been unbeaten in the ongoing season, which is quite an impressive thing. He is improving his strike rate with the passage of time and will definitely get the attention of the punters in the upcoming
events.
He was priced 11 to 4 for the Prince of Wales's Stakes and had to beat some extremely good stallions in order to bag a cash prize of £283,550 for his team. Although the overall distance to cover was more than one length, he kept
on pushing from the start. He was in a very strong position, entering the final furlong and ended up leading towards the finish.
Winning jockey James Doyle admitted that things were not easy at all and there was immense pressure on him from the rivals. He said, “I had a moment's worry turning in because Paul Hanagan gave his horse a fantastic ride. He got
the fractions right and filled him up at the right time, but he digs so deep and I'm very lucky to be sat on him. Winning here is magical really, it's what it is all about.”
Al Kazeem struggled with a few injuries at the start of his career, thus he was unable to win races with consistency. However, he has gained strength over the years and things are headed in the right direction for him.
When asked about the future plans of the winning stallion, trainer Roger Charlton said, “There are lots of lovely races for him, I've not spoken to the owners but I've always wanted a runner in the Arc. Soft ground would not inconvenience
him and if we went that route then we could go for the King George and then there.”
On the other hand, Camelot’s camp would have been dejected with the outcome of the all important event, as he was rated as the favourite to succeed. He was simply not at his best in the race, as he dropped outside the top-three
in the end. Things are not working his way this year and he needs some time to recover from this loss.
