Al Kazeem to take on mighty Camelot – Horseracing News
Al Kazeem is set to represent his team at the highest level against Camelot in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at Curragh in Ireland on Sunday, May 26, 2013.
Trainer Roger Charlton revealed on his website, “Al Kazeem worked impressively with his lead horse over seven furlongs yesterday and he remains an intended runner at the Curragh on Sunday, where he is likely
to meet up with the mighty Camelot in the Tattersalls Gold Cup.”
It will not be easy for anyone to upset a strong stallion like Camelot, who has managed to maintain a pretty good strike rate so far in his career. There was only one race where he failed to make it to the top
three but other than that, he has been splendid for his team and the bookies always show immense confidence in his abilities.
The four-year-old colt started off his career in 2011 and won five back-to-back events, which proved his authority to everyone. He has only taken part in one race this year but his performance in it was up to
the mark once again, as he succeeded comfortably by almost two lengths.
On the other hand, Al Kazeem cannot be taken lightly at all, as he too has performed brilliantly for his team until now. He has taken part in a total of nine events, winning four of them whereas finished as a
runner up on the same number of times.
However, the five-year-old horse needs to produce something extraordinary in order to succeed at Curragh.
Charlton will also be trying his luck with seasoned mare Thistle Bird, who has got a nice record too. However, she will be seen in action in a different race known as the Dahlia Stakes, which is also scheduled
to take place at Curragh.
However, Charlton has not made a final decision on this and said, “She holds an entry on the previous day in the Abu Dhabi Stakes, a Group 3 for older fillies over eight furlongs. I will consider the opposition
before making a decision.”
If Thistle Bird manages to deliver a strong result in the Abu Dhabi Stakes, she will definitely line up for action in the Dahlia Stakes too.
