Al Mahmeyah to appreciate Sandown’s sounder surface in Ken Manley Memorial Fillies´ Handicap
Quality Pearl, on her handicap debut, is of obvious interest. Nevertheless, the punters at Sandown should try their luck with Al Mahmeyah, who travelled very nicely on her reappearance.
She will appreciate Sandown’s hard surface, and holds the best chance of making an impact in the Ken Manley Memorial Fillies´ Handicap, being held on Wednesday, September 19, 2012.
Al Mahmeyah performed superbly last season. After facing a couple of narrow defeats respectively at Kempton and Nottingham, she finally got it right in last September.
On her second appearance at Kempton, she did not let things slip out of her hands. In the Eventmasters.co.uk E B F Maiden Fillies' Stakes, the filly lived up to the high expectations, and bagged the victory by three quarters of a length.
Under Pat Dobbs, Richard Hannon’s charge established her dominance a furlong before the wire. She was seriously challenged in the final moments, but the 9-4 favourite tackled things properly to retain her advantage.
Owned by Hamed Rashed Bin Ghadayer, the 3-year-old went on a long vacation after registering her maiden success. She returned to action in June, when finishing fourth behind Stellar Express at Nottingham.
Although Al Mahmeyah was completely unable to trouble the leading trio, she showed good rhythm on her seasonal debut. After making a wonderful start to the season, the daughter of Teofilo is expected to raise her game, and do something special at Sandown
today.
There are 14 runners in the line-up for the 1m14y event. It is scheduled to begin at 17:05 GMT. The going is good to firm for the class 4 contest - the winner of which will bag a cash prize worth £4,075.
Quality Pearl showed a lot of positives on her last start. Without any difficultly, she clinched a handsome win at Thirsk last month. The bookmakers are expecting her to do an equally good job in Handicap Company, but one should wait and watch how she handles
the situation.
Fairyinthewind and The Giving Tree also make some appeal, but the centre of attention is Al Mahmeyah. The Richard Hannon-trained looks to be the only one in a position to create an upset. Good luck to all the horses.
