Al Naouwee to create a surprise in Jebel Ali’s Shadwell (Handicap) (Dirt)
The S. Seemar-trained, Al Naouwee, is not enjoying the best of odds, but this will hardly count in the Shadwell (Handicap) (Dirt), to be held at Jebel Ali in UAE on November 02, 2012.
The 5-year-old struggled a lot at the start of his career. He ran plenty of good races in defeat in the first two seasons. After a long unlucky spell, the brown horse finally got off the mark at Meydan in March 2012.
It was not an easy ride. In the hands of Pat Cosgrave, he led soon after the start. Despite plenty of pressure, the 25-1 chance ran on bravely, and just held on. With the help of a courageous move in the final stages, Al Naouwee succeeded in securing the big prize by a short head’s distance.
His confidence would be at a high following a classy victory. Although the Ahmed Al Falasi-owned is returning to action after a long break, no one can question his momentum. The son of Forest Camp can quickly adjust to the conditions. He has run a few decent races here in the past.
Not an easy opposition is waiting for him. Including Al Naouwee, nine horses have entered the meeting. On Jabel Ali’s fast five furlongs, the participants will be in pursuit of a prize of £7,937.
Celtic King is a massive threat to all. Trained by M. Al Muhairi, the 9-year-old was quite impressive on his previous two starts at Meydan. After securing a classy ½-length win at the start of March, the son of King’s Best perpetuated his fine work, and shared the podium on March 17th.
Another runner with decent chances is My Verse. D. Selvaratnam’s charge knows this track very well, and has done business here in the past. The 6-year-old is making her seasonal debut, and will be full of energy. On her latest start, the daughter of Exceed And Excel was sixth on the table.
She is surely a dangerous runner, but we predict both Celtic King and Al Naouwee to run ahead of her. The latter was an impressive winner last time, and gets the vote. We wish the best of luck to all the contenders.
