Al Sabaupan set to face Ricky Sismundo for IBF Pan Pacific title – Boxing news
The 22-year-old Super Featherweight contender, Al Sabaupan is finally returning to the ring for live action after more than a two-month rest against the 24-year-old, Ricky Sismundo in their 12-round IBF Pan pacific championship bout on July 9, 2011 at the
General Trias Sports Complex in Manila, Philippines.
Sabaupan’s fight promoter Elmer Anuran confirmed this news and said, “We are very confident that Al Sabaupan has the skills and power to win the IBF world championship. He is a very dedicated boxer who does the hard work in the gym and is always in top fighting
condition.”
Anuran added, “Manny Pacquiao has shown that the Philippines are a great boxing nation and we are hoping that Sabaupan can follow in his footsteps. The IBF champion Miguel Velazquez has shown himself to be a strong champion but we would welcome a world title
opportunity.”
The Southpaw stance Sabaupan is coming to the ring after winning 17 consecutive fights against the world’s best boxers. The Philippines national, Sabaupan has never been defeated by anyone in his career.
The IBF number nine Lightweight contender, Al Sabaupan turned professional winning unanimous points decision against Japeth Martin in 2008 at the Bantagas Provincial Sports Complex in Batangas, Philippines.  
In his previous fight, Sabaupan claimed a 10-round unanimous points victory over the 33-year-old compatriot, Jaime Barcelona in April 2011 at the Agoncillo in Batangas, Philippines.
The most interesting and exciting fight of his career was when he defeated former WBA world titlist, Josafat Perez in their 10-round bout on October 10, 2009 at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City in Metro Manila, Philippines.
Ricky Sismundo is returning to the ring after being defeated by Billy Dib in their 8-round bout on March 12, 2011 at the WA Italian Club in Perth, Western Australia.
Sismundo has won 18 of his 24 fights including 7 knockout victories with 6 losses.
Hopefully, the fight between the two will be interesting and entertaining one. Let’s see how it turns out to be.
